Hey guys! Long time no chat. Life has been a bit crazy and hectic with spring break, now soccer is starting. So I needed to get this out to you to help with crazy life styles like ours. Hope you find something useful and share the blog with someone else on social media!
I make a meal replacement shake everyday, typically in the morning but sometimes lunch or dinner. In that shake I add 4-6 medium size frozen strawberries. Well if you look in the freezer section a bag of frozen berries is like $5. What I do is when they are running strawberries on special like 2/$4 or 3/$5 I grab as many as I can and take them home rinse, cut the stems and sometimes cut in half and place in a gallon freezer bag. This saves so much money and you control that there is no preservatives in that frozen bag. I do the same thing with blueberries as our puppy loves these as a treat.
Do you have bananas on your counter going bad? Peel them and cut in half throw them in the freezer too. Now you didn’t throw away the banana to go buy new and you still can use in your shakes!
Now for the GREENS!!! I typically from time to time will buy spinach and kale to throw in to the shakes but not all the time. Since greens go bad fairly quickly and I love a cold not watered down shake (no ice added for me) here is something that will save the Greens. Take the greens and put in your blender with a little bit of water. Blend up as you would a shake consistency. Now pour the mixture into a muffin pan filling it up half way. Freeze and when solid pop out the hockey puck of greens from the muffin tray and into a freezer bag. Now you have frozen greens when you want them for your shakes!
Another tip I do almost weekly is with meats. You know if you go early in the morning they are marking meats down. Grab the ground beef, turkey, chicken whatever you like and take it home, brown it up you can even season it for specific things like spaghetti, Sloppy joes, Mexican dishes etc. Label your freezer bag with the name of what the meat will be used for – Tacos or Spaghetti. Then divide up and let it cool with the bag open. Once cooled completely then close it up with no air and lay flat for best storage in your freezer. Chicken cut in cubes is also great and quick to cook up in a hurry. Finding whole chickens on sale is a bonus too cause I boil it up and shred it and place in baggies for quesadilla’s or for the puppy, yes she is spolied! Now when you get home after work, or sports and forgot to pull something out you can pop this in the microwave to defrost while kids are doing homework or showers and dinner on the table in under 30 mins.
Green, red, or yellow peppers along with onion they run these on special all the time in the grocery. Buy them up and cut into slices like for stir fry dishes then place in baggies per dish. So you grab one bag throw it with some meat and make some rice and BAM dinner is served You can also add meat and a marinade to this bag and its all in one bag when you are ready to cook.
hope these tips helped you and as I come up with more I will share. But I would love for you to share with me one of your money/time saving tips with food below!
Have a great day!
Today is Day 1 for my next 30 day challenge with IDLife. Each month since January IDLife has sponsored a transformation challenge. Top male and female wins a $1000. In February they added the Top 5 would win a workout with Jen Widerstrom from the Biggest Loser and also an IDLife investor. I set this as my goal and on March 10th the winners were announced…… My name was the second one to be called!!!!!!!!! I can’t tell you the emotions I went through, first I was like what is that my pic, then I was like wait a minute that is my picture, then I wanted to rewind the video but it was a FaceBook Live so I had to wait until it was over to watch it again! I started crying when it hit me that I had achieved the goal I sat out to hit on February 1st. I believed in myself and so many around me did as well and I couldn’t believe we had achieved it! At that moment I knew exactly what would be next, set the goal to win the $1000 in March. I have 38 lbs left to hit my ultimate weight loss goal of 88 lbs. I will achieve it this year and maybe even by my 47th birthday in June. But if not by June I will not beat myself up and I will continue down the journey. The weight didn’t come on over night and won’t be released overnight.
So today is Day 1 for the new challenge and I spent all of Sunday doing meal prep and making sure my excuses were covered, meaning there is no way I can order pizza, or run through a drive thru because I didn’t plan lunch or dinner. Breakfast is covered with my IDLife meal replacement shake. With all the standing at the counter and stove yesterday I think I aggravated my SI joint so I was hurting a bit. I am hitting the gym tonight to work out this SI pain it will be some light bike work but I will achieve what needs to happen.
I took some time off from blogging and was working on the business, FT job and home! But I am back and ready to start in again talking about REAL life events. What has been going on with you?
Here are some funny highlights of what has been happening in the last month or so with me and my family.
- I went to Dallas for a leadership weekend with IDLife and it was awesome!!!
- I did a weight loss challenge in February and released 7 lbs and 8 inches! Part of my motivation this month was to earn the workout with Jen Widerstrom in April. She is an investor with IDLife and is doing a private workout for those that earn it! Stay tuned winners announced March 10th at 4pm ET.
- Our daughter is acting 16 when she is 10 1/2 Lord help me here!
- Working on earning a trip to Secrets Maroma in May. If you need IDLife product Please let me know all orders by end of March count!
- Planning our annual Vegas trip getaway for my birthday, so excited! wasn’t sure it was happening this year but it worked out.
- My husband acquired a long desired Star Wars item this month! he is my second kid 🙂
- Planning a long weekend getaway for Spring Break.
- Planning some spring cleaning on the other end of Spring Break! I will be focused and complete it.
- Molly the dog is still cute as ever except that one Sunday morning she decided to poop and pee all over her crate and we woke up to that. First time since we got her and we didn’t even sleep in that morning….that was fun NOT
- Preparing for IDLife annual convention in April and super excited to see my family!!!
- Finishing up my 2nd year as PTO president and I can say that I am proud i stuck it out this year but will be glad when May gets here.
I think that sums up the last month for us in our household. What about you?
Stay tuned for more regular blogs and fun antics from my and my family!!!
Here comes a couple of real life mom moments and you might want to grab a tissue as I have experienced a couple emotions that shouldn’t have happened for 2 more years at least, or so I thought!
So yesterday my husband and daughter hit the mall in search of a POP (those figurines that are all the rage and taking over my house). Hot Topic is the place to look so they went in search of the Holy Grail…lol About 30 mins later I get a text from my 10yr old daughter asking” what size do I wear in juniors for skinny jeans”? I responded, ” I don’t know you will need to try on but probably the smallest size”. Now rewind last March when we were in Nashville at the age of 9 she tried on some ripped skinny jeans in the smallest size at the store and they were way to big in the waist, whewwwwwww dodged that bullet. 30 more minutes go by and I get a text about some earrings and double piercing her ears. I tell her we need to wait, she needs a special earring etc. I will rewind about 4 yrs ago she wanted to pierce her ears before her grandpa’s wedding that she was the flower girl in so we said, ok. Well let me tell you after 15 mins prepping the first ear, doing paperwork etc at Claire’s in the mall the first one went in and you would have thought we stabbed her in the heart not the ear lobe. The whole mall heard her screaming and crying. She was a hot sweaty mess, I was upset/frustrated as well. My husband on the other hand was holding the front of tough love telling a 6 yr old you chose this now finish it. We attempted to do the second ear with me holding her, that didn’t work. He held her and almost ended up with his own piercing. The lady doing the piercing seemed timid and fearful of ripping her ear and I appreciate that but c’mon you do this everyday have some trick or balls to get it done. After 55 mins since the first pierce the manager came back from lunch/bank run and walked up to the piercing station, looked at our daughter as she sterilized her hands and said, ” we are going to get this done so you can be on your way”. in about 20 seconds she grabbed her lobe and snap in the other earring went. A few more tears but nothing like the first time and we were on our way. Over the next year or so she struggled with infections and came to the realization she cannot have anything but 10K and above in her ears. My mom gave her some good earrings and we changed them out (a whole other ordeal as she thought it would hurt just like the piercing) and every since no issues. I wasn’t ready for that again but she is a very determined young lady. I get a phone call saying they are on their way home, no ears pierced…..whew!
After she ate lunch she comes down the hall to my room and says to her dad, “these fit good”. I was like what are those? She informed me they are size 0 jeans from Hot Topic. They fit her perfect. I actually got misty eyed at that moment as it hit me we have outgrown Children’s Place, soon to outgrow Justice (even though her entire wardrobe for Christmas was Justice) and she is moving on the trendy stores for pre-teens and teens alike. How did this happen? Where did my baby go? The baby that is so tall we have to buy jeans 2 sizes big to fit her length and therefore the adjustable waists are perfect. Hot Topic DOES NOT have adjustable waists people!!!!!!!! That one took me by surprise and I was not prepared. I was sure I had another year at least before I was going to be out of options at the “girls stores”.
Today we hit an outlet mall and guess what was in the mall, Claire. You see where I am going huh? So she shows me some of the cheaper earrings she was looking at last night and I was like “honey I don’t think those will work”. I could see the disappointment on her face. I wandered up to the piercing station to look at the choices and she was determined to get a “diamond” stud like mine. I looked at her and said, ” are you sure you are ready”? and without hesitation she said “YES I AM” I looked at the lady working and said, ” let’s pierce her up”. She was so excited but i saw the nerves set in as i filled out the paperwork. I kept asking are you sure? She always responded yes. The lady marked her ears with the purple dot, showed her in the mirror to make sure she liked it and then loaded up the gun. I held her hand and said, ” don’t move and squeeze as much as you need to” BAM it went in and at first nothing, then she got the ugly cry look and tears started to flow down. I said “we are half way done you can do it”! She took a deep breath and the lady went to the other side loaded up and BAM! ALL DONE! To be honest I stood there in awe of her reflecting on 4 yrs priors experience and how this was way different. She walked out of there like a BOSS and was smiling from ear to ear. She knew she accomplished a fear and to be honest she is one of the first in her class to get a second piercing. I can’t wait to hear about what everyone says tomorrow at school.
She is already going the makeup route so that is out of the way. She actually does eye make up better than most grown women. I told her that her first job could be at MAC or Sephora. She got excited.
So what is next for my journey with a pre teen? yes I know her “THAT” will be here sooner than it was for me her pediatrician has already warned me most likely by 11.
Wish us luck, I am sure this is not the last tween post!
What will you do today to be AWESOME? I would love to see comments below of things you did today to make a difference big or small. Did you put a smile on someone’s sad face? Maybe pay it forward and pay for the person behind you at Starbucks? If we all took one moment each day to do something for ourselves or someone else can you imagine what kind of world we would live in compared to the reality of today?
During the week of Christmas I went through a drive thru (yes I am human remember) and I paid for my stuff with a debit card. then I left the cashier $10 and said pay for how ever many people you can behind me and tell them Merry Christmas and pay it forward! This is a cashier I see when i do visit said place and she has helped me do it before. She smiled and say God Bless you and Merry Christmas. I drove off with a smile on my face knowing I might have made someone’s day.
So take a moment and do a small act of kindness for someone.
Here we are the end to another weekend filled with household chores, family time and relaxation. Wait, what? Relaxation? I missed that part this weekend. I long for the days again to just lay around with a book and read. I did however catch up on 2 TV shows on DVR! I also made it to the gym this morning and did some Fasting Cardio on the treadmill with 30 mins. of interval training and one rotation of upper arms with 2.5 lb weights, ropes and abs.
I meal prepped this weekend to help stay on track of the journey at hand and I made the following:
- 3 bags of Chicken lettuce wraps mixture
- 1 bag of beef stir fry
- 3 bags of split chicken breasts for parm. crusted chicken or another baked chicken varities
- 2 bags of chicken strips to grill or fry for salads
- 1 bag of boiled chicken legs for the dog – yes she is spoiled
- a dozen hard boiled eggs for snacks each day
- tomorrow I will cook up some ground chuck for a casserole in the crock pot Tuesday
- pork chops and sweet potato chips with a salad for dinner tomorrow night
This should last us a couple weeks with a beef night thrown in with already bagged hamburger in the freezer as well as salmon and shrimp in the freezer too. I am on operation clean out the freezer and start fresh in February. I am investigating the Insta Pot as well. I have seen several friends cooking their meals lately with it and I am curious. I love my crockpot/slow cooker but the Insta Pot is very intriguing. However they remain sold out at Wal Mart so I might have to get it off Amazon! Do you have the Insta Pot and if so please comment below your review, I am curious!
Good news is laundry and house work can be finished tomorrow as we are all off! So tonight I will sit back and probably fall asleep before 10:30pm. Nite all!
Whewwwwwwwwwwwwwww it is real today. All i can think about is Olive Garden bread sticks with Alfredo sauce. Salad and Soup too but mostly the bread sticks. I told myself that would be a cheat lunch if I go to the gym 5 times in a week and have brought my lunch to work for 5 days. Well Lunch is almost there but gym has happened once this week.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh OMG seriously as I sit here writing this blog I just received an email from Olive Garden (pic below of what they are taunting me with, not bread sticks). So is this a sign? Should I go and work out harder tonight and the next 4 days as payback for allowing myself to go early? Or would this be the same thing as I previously talked about with my 10 yr old about not getting her things when she asks, to make her wait or earn it?
What should I do? Comment below if you have a struggle like me and how do you overcome it. Today I am overcoming it by drinking my IDLife Mixed Berry Energy Drink. It helps with cravings and allows me to get a boost naturally without any sugars or hard crashes. I love my IDLife!
